Behind the Banter

Strong tea and black cats, that's me!

I'm a full-time insurance nerd who also supports my husband's busy contracting business and teaches adulting for my new adults, while also finding time to do all those self-help things like read, relax, be a good pet-parent and, of course, create my own happy worlds where I am (mostly...sometimes) in control!

The Journey

From Random Dreams to Published Novels

All of my stories have started as a caffeine-fueled and sleep-deprived fever dream. I'm not being facetious. As any writer will tell you, it all starts with an idea... and the characters take it from there!

My favorite part of any work in progress is the point where the characters start to drive their own paths. As much as I'd like to be a plotter, I am a total "pantser", as in "write by the seat of your pants". My stories are always character-driven, and that leads to some pretty unbelievable plot twists sometimes. I never know at the start of a book if it's going to be a drama, a suspense, or a rom-com but once my characters take shape, the rest seems to fall into place in the most satisfying ways.

My Process

Random fact about me: I'm ambidextrous. I can even write in cursive with both hands!

I'm both highly analytical and irrevocably creative, which can be a real bummer when the wrong side of my brain is primary on the day I need the other side!

I hand-write all of my manuscripts because there is something about the physical act of writing that puts me in the scene, feeling all the feelings and knowing the right words. I can even tell what kind of writing day I'm going to have by the quality of my handwriting.

Weird, right? That's me!

Where do you get your ideas?

When do you find the time?

Where can I buy your books?

Everywhere. A snatched conversation, a strange dream, or usually, a random thought while staring at a blank page. I am an observer and intensely interested in what motivates people.

Well... Either I ignore everyone for days on end, or I wait until everyone is asleep and grab that last couple of quiet hours in the day.

My publisher contracts are digital only. I take extra steps to make print copies available but at the moment they will only be found online through Amazon.
